My role

After establishing websters over 30 years ago, I was CEO until July 2022 when I moved to my new role as Chairman. The management of the business is now in the capable hands of the Head of Tax and Head of Accounts but I retain an executive role as the leader of the team pushing for growth and development and I still provide advice to clients in my areas of interest.

What I enjoy most is helping people solve their problems. We have an outstanding tax and accounts team who pay attention to the details to ensure that the right advice is given but in some cases the most important aspect of the process is helping the client to look through the complexity and the miriad choices they face and to focus on understanding what they really want to achieve. Then we can help them achieve that end in a tax efficient manner.

My current professional work is focused on creating Virtual Private Offices for high net worth individuals who need to unite tax, legal and financial advice from our team or with other outside advisers. I also help business owners with succession planning and business transfers and advise clients who need to report errors or omisions to HMRC.

Accreditations

I now have over 45 years of tax experience. I qualified as an Inspector of Taxes with the Inland Revenue after joining them as a Graduate Direct Entrant after a degree in Philosophy from Sheffield.

Pleased to be able to help the firm continue to grow and to help develop a talented team of colleagues.

Hobbies and interests

Outside of work music is my biggest passion, and my family the main priority. I am now able to enjoy slightly more time playing the guitar, and recently the Mandolin as well as listening to a wide range of music. For many years I was a compere at the Cambridge Folk Festival. My current challenge is trying to improve my French as we have just acquired a property in France.
