Probate gives an individual or individuals the right to deal with a deceased person’s affairs.
If you have already made a Will you will have named the executors you wish to deal with your affairs after your death and your executor will apply for a ‘grant of probate’. This grant is a legal document which confirms that your executor has your authority to deal with your assets, whether these are property, money or possessions. It gives them the right to access funds, sort out finances, collect and share these out as you have set out in your Will.
We can assist clients in preparing and reviewing the paperwork for a personal application for a grant of probate. We can also assist executors in the administration of the estate and deal with HMRC in relation to the preparation of returns for the period to date of death and for the administration period of the estate.
