tax - investigations

Whether you are a private individual, a business or a company you could be investigated by HMRC. Although many of these enquiries are routine and can be handled by your existing accountant - you may sometimes benefit from the advice of a specialist tax firm.

Our team includes two former Inspectors of Taxes who have experience of dealing with a wide range of investigations from ommissions of income in excess of £800,000 to people with off-shore bank accounts with small amounts of undeclared income.

Our team do not focus exclusively on investigations. Therefore all are expert on a wide range of tax planning. So we don't forget the need to consider your overall tax position - as we do battle on your behalf with HMRC. Even if you have been guilty of major tax evasion you are still entitled to present your case in the best possible light.

Our tax specialists include two former Tax Inspectors, Chartered Tax Advisors, a Solicitor and Chartered Accountants. We tailor our planning to meet your business or personal needs - often as part of dealing with your investigation.

Unlike most firms of accountants we are able to offer an opportunity to have a confidential discussion which is within the rules of professional previlige. This cannot be disclosed to HMRC - unlike most conversations with your accountant.

business

We have helped businesses being investigated by HMRC for income tax, corporation tax, VAT and PAYE. We have a great track record of negotiating a fair settlement.

We have helped businesses as small as a taxi driver to large companies where significant profits have not been declared over many years.

international

We have had a particular expertise in dealing with investigations with an international dimension. This has included businesses selling property in Spain from a UK base, international consultants etc. Our knowledge of overseas tax regimes means we can be sure that reduction of a UK tax liability is not at the expense of more tax in another country.

We have experience in dealing with the Off-Shore disclosure reports if overseas bank accounts have been used - without full declaration of income.

individual

An investigation could be on bank interest which was left off your tax return or the sale of a property not declared to HMRC. They now have many sources of information to check your return.

We have often defended clients who have done nothing wrong - and our role is to convince HMRC that this is the case. In other cases we have helped people negotiate a settlement when the client knew that they had not paid the right amount of tax.
