Drop-in Surgery held at Cambridge Cancer Help Centre on 24th February 2015

I recently held a Tax and Legal Drop-in Surgery at the Cambridge Cancer Help Centre, David Rayner Building in Great Shelford.
People obviously worry about their future when they find out that they or a loved one has cancer and I found this informal session gave people the chance and time to talk through their tax and legal worries.
The focus of the surgery was on inheritance tax planning, and the setting up of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney – both property and financial affairs and health and welfare. In addition a number of queries were raised as to how property is owned as between couples and ensuring the inheritance of that property for their children, particularly if one or both spouses had children from a previous marriage. Many questions also related to the provision of care home fees and how these could be managed.
The feedback from the surgery was very positive and I was delighted that many of the attendees said that talking through the issues raised brought them peace of mind and cleared up many uncertainties.
