In growing our business we emphasise our expertise in certain industry sectors. As all our accountants would tell you we are perfectly able to provide a service to most types of industry or service business but nonetheless there are certain areas in which our combination of skills is particularly valuable.
Since the firm grew from tax consultancy origins we have always attracted clients with relatively high earnings who clearly understood that they could benefit from careful tax planning. As we are not a conventional accounting firm with an audit team we have also tended to specialise in businesses with higher value but lower turnover especially those in the service sector.
Our niche areas also reflect the particular nature of the Cambridge marketplace which until 2009 was our only business location. However we also have an expertise in dealing with MPs who have special tax rules to comply with.
We have built a team with unrivalled expertise in dealing with tax payers of consultants e.g. management consultants, biotech & scientific advisors etc. Many have been linked directly or indirectly to Cambridge University which has a very open attitude to its academics undertaking outside commercial work.
Again the university link helped us build a group of clients in the media and creative fields including writers, broadcasters etc. this area has now been supplemented by a number of clients in the film industry and their agents.
Our most recent niche has been developed in the investment advisers both in Cambridge & in London. Clients include firms of IFA's, advisers on fundraising, city economists, investment analysts in commercial banks.

The new 50% rate is making many of our higher earning clients look more carefully at tax planning. However the techniques that they might use are also available to help others lower down the income scale
specialist team
we support our niche expertise by looselygrouping clients in a similar sector to one or two account managers within our team. We then encourage those specialists to further develop their understanding of the sector to be better able to identify proactively issues to be addressed with the clients.
international clients
Many of our niche sectors are more international by nature than many businesses. Our team of international tax specialists provides solutions to their problems.

Within your sector we may well have built up expertise beyond tax and accounting by working with clients over many years.
For some clients we have also been able to make valuable introductions to others working in a similar field allowing the possibility of collaborations.
