Joanne Lamberth - australian representative

I started as a tax consultant/senior tax consultant with Andrew Webster Ltd in Cambridge in 2002. I left the UK in September 2009 and emigrated with my family to Sydney, Australia. I am now AW Ltd's representative in Australia where I am responsible for developing services to both individuals and businesses with UK-Australia tax issues.

There have always been strong links between Australia and the UK and AW Ltd already has both business and individual clients with Australia-UK issues. With thousands of migrants leaving the UK for Australia each year either for employment or lifestyle reasons and with the growth of innovative Australian businesses with the need to expand their markets into the UK and Europe there has never been a better time to develop the strength we already have as a team in advising on international relocation whether it is temporary or permanent.

The benefits of in-house expertise in tax (both UK and Australian and specialist international tax), financial planning and legal services and our excellent accounting team means that we can provide a complete and cost-effective service to individuals and businesses whether moving from UK to Australia or from Australia to the UK

history

After graduating with a degree in Chemistry and following a number of commercial roles I joined Coopers & Lybrand in 1996 as a graduate trainee in audit. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999 I then joined their high-tech tax team.

Having relocated to Cambridge in 2000 I joined Grant Thornton's tax team, focussing largely on developing their offering to high-tech clients.

I joined AW Ltd after qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor, and since then have enjoyed the opportunity to provide imaginative tax consultancy advice to both businesses and individuals in a variety of different circumstances and to work closely with the excellent team at AW Ltd.

other business

I am currently studying for a Masters in International Taxation at the University of New South Wales and an Advanced Diploma of International Taxation with the Chartered Institute of Taxation. As part of this course I will also be studying the tax regimes of other Asia-Pac countries to further expand my knowledge-base and provide new tax planning understanding.

outside interests

I am looking forward to being able to take advantage of the outdoor lifestyle in the sports I enjoy: swimming, scuba diving, golf and horse-riding. I am also an active member of the P&C committee at my childrens' school.

the future

I can see considerable potential for further expansion of AW Ltd's services to Australian clients and we are looking to open a permanent office in Australia in the next 2-3 years offering a full range of accountancy and tax services.
