Gary Eves - manager, accounts & business team
My role for clients is to manage the team delivering accounts and business tax advice to our clients who are in businesses. We are fortunate to have some great people in our team and we are now working hard to grow the portfolio of clients. My personal area of specialism is in owner managed businesses. I enjoy the challenge of being able to help them make improvements in their business not just preparing accounts at the end of the year.
It is very rewarding being able to bring in advice from our specialists to be able to help a client with a complex problem. This could be specialist tax advice, help drafting a sale agreement or arranging a pension. Clients really appreciate this assistance. If they had to go to another firm for the specialist advice then it would often be prohibitively expensive.
I'm a fairly relaxed person and don't panic easily. This is very useful in keeping the team focussed when we are busy. A sense of humour is also important, we don't want to seem like the stereotype of a boring accountant.
The majority of my work is about preparing annual accounts for clients and advising them on how to interpret the accounts to understand how well their business is performing. Recently I have worked on a project to co-ordinate the sale of a clients business and advised a client on how to incorporate a business to reduce tax. We have a number of clients who travel extensively and helping them keep track of their residence is always difficult.
history
I trained with a small firm in Kings Lynn after leaving school.
Qualified as a Certified Accountant.
Became senior manager and then an owner/director of the same firm.
Joined Andrew Webster in early 2007.
other business
Unfortunately my main other activity at the moment outside work is commuting. I travel from near Kings Lynn every day.
outside interests
I try to get out onto the golf course as much as I can. Finding the time is often very difficult.
Travelling overseas is also important to me and I always make sure that I get a couple of foreign trips each year. It is important to be able to recharge the batteries and come back to work with a clear focus.
the future
I plan to continue building the strength of our accounts and business tax team. The biggest challenge is to keep up the high standards of work as we grow the practice.
