Corporate Tax - Richard Foster
I provide UK and international corporation tax advice to corporate clients of the firm and their shareholders. In doing so I work closely with the rest of the people working in this multi-disciplinary firm and any other external professionals involved.
Over the years I have enjoyed advising clients on a wide range of issues including corporate tax compliance and accounting, related UK advisory services, capital allowances, corporate acquisitions and disposals, international taxes, transfer pricing strategy and cross border financing, and corporate re-organisations.
I have managed the corporation tax compliance and accounting for many businesses; from start up technology businesses with important “cash back” research and development tax credit claims, to large groups with 50 members of the group. I have also acted for many overseas groups helping them to manage their UK subsidiaries.
The client relationships that have always given me most satisfaction are those which become close enough that I am working with, not just for, the business; where I have role in helping not just to manage taxes but, through doing so, to shape a business strategy and to deliver transactions efficiently.
I also provide specialist corporate tax advice to a number of smaller professional practices and their clients

History |
 |
I did a degree in Geology at Durham, after which I worked for 4 years in Oil Exploration as a logging geologist both overseas and in the North Sea.
In 1985 I decided to change career and do a business qualification; I came to Cambridge and joined the late Robson Rhodes as a trainee Chartered Accountant. It was here that I first met and worked with Andrew.
I trained as an accountant and auditor before moving to a mixed tax role in 1990. In 1995 I decided to specialise in advising companies and their shareholders on their corporate tax compliance affairs and business transactions.
I have since also worked as a Senior Tax Manager for both Ernst & Young and KPMG, and as a Tax Director for Grant Thornton, always based in Cambridge.
In February 2010 I joined forces with Andrew Webster.

I plan to continue developing my skills as an advisor to companies and their shareholders on both the tax and commercial aspects of their businesses and transactions.
In doing so I have a role in helping to develop the corporate tax skills of the team.
